The St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is the leading destination on Florida's Gulf Coast, drawing more than 13.4 million visitors in 2009.
Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater (VSPC), Pinellas County's Convention and Visitors Bureau, is responsible for growing Pinellas County's major industry, tourism. The group's purpose is to strengthen the county's economy and employment by investing the Tourist Development Tax receipts in a comprehensive, successful and research driven tourism marketing program. The group is headed by the Administration Department and provides staff services to the Tourist Development Council.
As the county-wide management and marketing organization, VSPC is responsible for developing and promoting the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area as a leisure, business, convention, conference, sports and film production destination.
In addition to the locally based department staff, VSPC also has international satellite offices through contract agencies located in London for the U.K., Ireland, Scotland and Scandinavian markets and in Frankfurt for Germany and seven other countries in Central Europe. These agencies are responsible for international sales and promotion in their respective regions, which resulted in 1.4 million international visitors to the area in 2009.
Further supporting the functions of VSPC are several external contract agencies. These contract agencies focus on advertising and media creation, technology and website management, market research and public relations domestically and internationally.
