10-Day Festival Celebrates Clearwater's Sugar Sand Beaches
Wednesday, April 17, 2013
St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (April 17, 2013) - Still basking in the glow of being named USA Today's "Best Florida Beach Town" earlier this year, Clearwater continues its celebration with the inaugural Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival, a 10-day event that starts Friday.
More than 1,000 tons of sand will be whipped into a variety of fanciful creations inside of a 12,000-square-foot tent creating an artistic walk-through display.
In addition to the tented sand exhibit ($7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and military; kids under 12 free), there are a variety of free activities in concert with the 10 sand-filled days, including a master sand sculpting competition, sculpting clinics for visitors and the Camp Hyatt Sandbox for kids.
"This is a great event for Clearwater Beach and the whole area" says Visit St. Pete/Clearwater Director DT Minich. "It's also a great lead into the destination's '100 Days of Summer' campaign, which launches in May and focuses on our all-important summer-time drive market."
