Thursday, December 29, 2011
St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (December 29, 2011) - Before the Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan State Spartans square off in the Outback Bowl on Monday, they'll do battle on the beach tomorrow afternoon.
Players, coaches, cheerleaders, bands and fans of the two college football powerhouses will head to Clearwater Beach for 'Beach Day,' the bowl game's annual celebration held on the powdery-white sand behind the Hilton Clearwater Beach near Pier 60.
The festivities take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will feature a variety of activities and challenges---including a tug-of-war contest.
Fans of both teams can soak up the area's award-winning coastline as they enjoy performances by the cheerleaders and marching bands, sand sculptures, a skydiving demonstration, live music and more.
After the festivities, stick around for Sunsets at Pier 60---Clearwater Beach's free nightly festival that includes live entertainment, street performers and artisans peddling their wares.
Celebrating its 26th year, the Outback Bowl takes place on Monday, January 2, in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium.
Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. with all the action broadcast live on ABC. A select number of tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster.com.
