St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (April 16, 2010) – Downtown St. Pete will transform into the perfect backdrop as artists from across the country display their creations at the 35th Annual Mainsail Arts Festival this weekend in picturesque Vinoy Park.

Over 100,000 people are expected to pack the park for this free festival that’s already gained acclaim on Sunshine Artist Magazine’s list of the —100 Best” Fine Arts events in the country.

The show will feature 250 juried Fine Art & Craft exhibitors competing for more than $50,000 in cash awards, including $10,000 for the prestigious ‘Best of Show’ winner. Participants will be judged on their creations in ceramics, digital art, fibers, glass, graphics, jewelry, metal, mixed media, oil/acrylic, photography, sculpture, watercolor and wood.

The festival features children’s art with the ‘Young at Art’ exhibition, a juried competition featuring artwork created by area students. Future artists can unleash their creativity with marble artistry, fish prints, swan ponds, watercolor butterflies and magical star wands at the Junior League Kids Create Tent.

This year’s Mainsail also delivers non-stop performing arts with a diverse and eclectic line-up of local musicians and entertainers. In addition to the classic rock sounds of the Little River Band, festival goers can also enjoy gospel, R&B, reggae, blues and much more.

To tempt your taste buds, a variety of culinary delights, ranging from Greek salad to BBQ ribs to hot pressed Cuban sandwiches, will be available for purchase in the festival’s food court.

The show runs Saturday, April 17, from 9am to 6pm, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
