Frightening Family-Friendly Activities on Tap for Halloween

Haunted houses, safe trick-or-treating abound in the St. Pete/Clearwater area

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (October 28, 2011) - From trick-or-treating to free psychic readings, the St. Pete/Clearwater area will be alive with the dead this Halloween.

So whether it's a pair of haunted houses in Tarpon Springs or planetarium shows at the Science Center of Pinellas County, you're bound to feed your Halloween fix---and we don't mean candy.

Below is a quick rundown of just some of the events to be found this weekend in the St. Pete/Clearwater area:

Haunted Block (Through Halloween) - One intersection in Tarpon Springs will be transformed into a haunted block. Two separate haunted houses will make up the scariest neighborhood in St. Pete/Clearwater this Halloween! See one for just $9 or tour them both for $15. Info: 727-437-2343 

Oldsmar Halloween Carnival (Friday) - The popular Halloween Carnival will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Kids can take part in games, hayrides and a costume contest at the Cypress Forest Recreation Center. Info: 813-749-1100

Corey Avenue Halloween Bash (Friday) - St. Pete Beach area stores will open their doors for safe trick-or-treating, beginning at 5 p.m. Costume contests, face painting and a pumpkin carving contest are also on tap. Info: 727-498-8778

Spooky Sci-Fi and Sky Night (Friday) - The Science Center of Pinellas County will hold a costume contest at 7:30 p.m. and a viewing of Disney's Spooky Buddies at 8 p.m. Catch a bug show, alligator show and five separate planetarium shows. Howl-O-Fest (Friday - Saturday) - A spooky trail, trick-or-treat cabins, hayrides, inflatables and arts and crafts will be on display at St. Pete's Boyd Hill Pioneer Settlement from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is $4, with hayrides fetching an additional $1. Info: 727-893-7813

Trick-or-Treating at John's Pass (Friday - Sunday) - Kids can trick-or-treat throughout this weekend's John's Pass Seafood Festival. Don't miss the children's costume contest on Saturday at 3 p.m. Info: http://www.johnspassfestivals.com 

Innisbrook Haunted Hollow (Friday - Sunday) - Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club will convert its famous Loch Ness Monster pool into a Halloween wonderland at the stroke of 6 p.m. Spooktacular activities include: Haunted hollow trail, pool side 'dive-in' movie, haunted waterslides, ghouly crafts and activities, glow-in-the dark putt-putt golf and a costume contest for kids 12 and under. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children (under 10), with kids under 4 admitted free. A party of four pass is available in advance for $40. Witchstock (Saturday) - Downtown Palm Harbor hosts Witchstock, where Woodstock and Halloween meet! From 3 p.m. to midnight, this free event will have live music, psychic readings, costume contests and more. Info: http://www.witchstock.com 

Halloween Happening (Saturday) - Dunedin's Highlander Park will have carnival games, haunted hayrides, haunted house, trick-or-treating, costume contests and more from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wristbands granting admission to all events are just $10. Halloween Spooktacular (Saturday) - This family-friendly event with fun and games takes place at Central Park from 4 to 10 p.m. Kids of all ages can enjoy trick-or-treating, bounce houses, Wii games and more. Gulfport Halloween Bash (Monday) - Beginning at 7 p.m., older kids can wander through a frightful haunted house, while youngsters can check out a scaled-down boo room at the Gulfport Recreation Center.
