St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (November 10, 2011) - The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, will return to the St. Pete/Clearwater area's Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club this weekend for its Open Championship.
The tournament will be contested on Innisbrook's Island Course (pictured) from November 11-13, and will feature a pro-am and two days of competitive action.
Rosie Jones, victorious in last year's event, will return to compete in the field of LPGA Legends for the Tour's only major championship. The tournament field also includes a number of LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers, including Pat Bradley, JoAnne Carner and Nancy Lopez.
Tickets are available for $20 per adult, per day, and can be purchased at http://www.thelegendstour.com/tickets/. Children 17 and under and all military personnel with ID gain free entrance each day.
Scheduled to start at 11 a.m., tomorrow's pro-am is free to attend, though a donation to support Girl Scouts of West Central Florida is appreciated.
Innisbrook, which in recent years has completed an extensive renovation under the guidance of its management company Salamander Hospitality, also hosts the PGA TOUR's Transitions Championship every March at its Copperhead Course. In a previous incarnation, that tournament featured mixed teams of male and female professionals, which proved popular with spectators.
Like Innisbrook's other championship golf courses, the Island Course was designed by Larry Packard. With tight fairways, intimidating water hazards and abundant bunkers, it is considered by many to be as demanding as the Copperhead Course and has been ranked among the country's top 50 resort courses by Golf Digest.
