St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (November 18, 2010) - The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, will return to the St. Pete/Clearwater area's Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club this weekend for its Open Championship.
The tournament will be contested on Innisbrook's Island Course (pictured) from November 19-21, and feature a $300,000 purse.
The 36-hole, stroke play tournament will feature two days of competition, a Pro-Am, and community outreach programs, including golf clinics, at the resort that sits on 900 wooded acres of rolling hills.
Sherri Steinhauer was victorious in last year's event with a three under 141 and will return to compete in the field of 44 LPGA Legends for the Tour's only major championship. The tournament field also boasts five LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers: Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, Joanne Carner, Beth Daniel and Patty Sheehan.
Advance tickets are available for $10 through Ruth Eckerd Hall or at the gate for $15. There is no charge for Friday's Pro-Am, but spectators are welcome to make a donation to the Hoffman Institute as they enter. Children 17 and under and military gain free entrance throughout the tournament.
Innisbrook, which has recently completed an extensive renovation under the guidance of its management company Salamander Hospitality, also hosts the PGA TOUR's Transitions Championship every March at its Copperhead Course. In a previous incarnation, that tournament featured mixed teams of male and female professionals, which proved popular with spectators.
Like Innisbrook's three other championship golf courses, the Island Course was designed by Larry Packard. With tight fairways, 70 feet of elevation changes, intimidating water hazards and abundant bunkers, it is considered by many to be as demanding as the Copperhead Course and has been ranked among the country's top 50 resort courses by Golf Digest.
