St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (May 5, 2011) - Kevin Smith, director of the St. Pete/Clearwater Sports Commission, has been appointed secretary of the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC).
At its annual meeting last month, the NASC approved the proposed slate, officially conferring the selection of its four officers and sixteen directors for 2011-2012.
Smith, who has served on the NASC board since 2007, is one of only two Florida-based members appointed to the upcoming year's leadership team. Following the organization's structure, Smith will ascend to chairman in four years.
"Holding a leadership position with the NASC is a privilege and an honor," Smith said. "It's also significant for the St. Pete/Clearwater Sports Commission, which we feel is among the nation's elite."
Smith has been associated with sports in the area for more than 25 years, helping form the Sports Commission in 1999 as its first sales manager. He serves on a number of local sports-related committees and is a 1985 graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine.
The NASC provides education, networking, and professional development to the sports event industry executives. For more information on the NASC, visit www.SportsCommissions.org.
