VSPC Unveils First-Ever Destination Magazine

Former Visitors Guide Replaced by Glossy, Large-Format 'Gulf to Bay'

Monday, May 6, 2013

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (May 6, 2012) – Visit St. Pete/Clearwater is proud to announce the publication this week of Gulf to Bay, the area's first-ever destination magazine for visitors and locals alike.

With 100 color pages and a trim size of 10.5 inches by 11.5 inches, the perfect-bound glossy publication, which was produced in partnership with the Tampa Bay Times, is the largest format magazine of any destination in Florida.

Gulf to Bay, which replaces the area's traditional Visitors Guide, follows the latest industry trends by inspiring readers with stories and images then directing them to a printed companion piece for listings or online for up-to-date service information.

"This idea is to make the main printed product a beautiful piece that readers will covet, one that embodies the beauty, depth and sophistication of the destination while driving them either online or to the companion piece for further details," said VSPC Deputy Director, David Downing. "This is what the magazine industry in general is doing, and Gulf to Bay is a reflection of that change."

Other new features of the new destination magazine include:

Social Media/Web Integration: Helping integrate online content with print sophistication is a five-page spread of the destination as seen through Instagram---and at the end is a blurb inviting visitors to share their shots on Instagram or Twitter (@VSPC or #AmericasBestBeaches). Also, instead of listing multiple web links in each story or directing readers to scan a never-ending list of visually-invasive QR codes, readers are directed to pertinent online companion content via specialized URLs at the end of every article.

2013 "Best Of" Lists: Readers will find a series of lists throughout the publication announcing the winners of the ever-popular "Best of St. Pete/Clearwater" annual online poll. More than 20 individual categories are sprinkled throughout the pages of Gulf to Bay, denoted by a purple VSPC logo distinguishing each list of favorites.

Increased Distribution: With a print circulation of some 275,000 and an unprecedented distribution schedule, Gulf to Bay will be the most-widely circulated promotional collateral the destination has ever produced. Kicking off the enhanced distribution schedule will be its inclusion in Tampa Bay Times andOrlando Sentinel  later this month, followed by strategically-timed insertions in The New York Times  andWall Street Journal  this summer.

Accommodations & Attractions Listings Insert: Published simultaneously with the magazine is Gulf to Bay: Accommodations & Attractions, a 12-page companion piece with a smaller trim size that provides comprehensive listings and contact information for area accommodations, attractions, activities, marinas, golf courses and more. It will ship with the magazine when it is ordered online and can be distributed with the publication as an option for appropriate trade shows, travel agent distributions, tour operators and more.

Available In Digital or Hard Copy: Visitors who want a digital-only version of the magazine can view it in its entirety in the Online Version and surf page-by-page through the destination. Hard copies of the magazine can be ordered online and will be shipped free of charge to the U.S. and Canada via the U.S. Postal Service. Gulf to Bay starts shipping to VSPC's worldwide distribution channels this week, and will be available at Visit St. Pete/Clearwater's SOLD OUT Tourism Tailgate event this Wednesday.
