St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (October 8, 2009) – We've always known that the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club matters, but here's your chance to help make it official.

The downtown St. Pete landmark, home of the International Shuffleboard Hall of Fame, is a finalist in the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 'This Place Matters' photo contest. After combing through nearly 2,000 photos, a jury panel has pared the list down to 12.

Voting continues until noon EST on Friday, October 9 and the public can vote online once per day, per person. For more information on the contest or to make your choice, visit http://bit.ly/CEepS.

Founded in 1924, the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club is the largest of its kind in the world and served as a catalyst for the sport, helping to develop the game’s modern rules.

At its peak in the 1950s, more than 5,000 members slid their discs across club courts. A modern revival has rejuvenated the club, sparking the interest of players of all ages who come for free Friday night shuffleboard, complete with live music and food and crafts from around the world.
