Eight Area Eateries Named Best in State
Florida Trend’s Golden Spoon Awards Honors Standouts New and Old

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (December 3, 2009) – A distinguished group of top-notch nosheries stretching from Oldsmar to St. Pete Beach recently received —Best in State” accolades from one of Florida’s premier magazines.

In its December issue,Florida Trend included eight St. Pete/Clearwater area restaurants in their Golden Spoon Awards, the annual compilation of the Sunshine State’s top eateries.

—Floridians are more interested in good food and great cooking than ever,” said Trend critic Chris Sherman of the awards, which recognizes culinary excellence on Hall of Fame, Golden Spoon and Best Newcomers lists.

Joining the ranks of the state’s elite, the Don CeSar saw its Maritana Grille elevated to the publication’s Hall of Fame. The St. Pete Beach landmark joined Bob Heilman’s Beachcomber of Clearwater Beach and Marchand's (pictured) in downtown St. Pete’s Renaissance Vinoy as the only St. Pete/Clearwater area spots in Trend’s exclusive club.

A pair of local fine dining establishments nabbed Golden Spoon Awards, while three more were recognized in the —Best Newcomer” category.

Clearwater’s Café Ponte and Oldsmar’s Hapa were two of the 36 restaurants honored for culinary excellence. A newcomer to the list, Hapa scored big points for its cozy feel.

—Chefs Brett and Nina Gardiner have made a small suburban space feel like intimate dinner parties with exquisite service,” said Sherman.

Citing its game, heirloom produce and Cajun accents, Clearwater’s Cities Restaurant was named to the Best Newcomers list, along with downtown St. Pete’s ultra-hip Red Mesa Cantinaand the chic 400 Beach Seafood & Tap House.
