Go Ga Ga For a Chihuahua At the Gulfport Chihuahua Fest
1/24/2006
From An American Idol-Style Chi Talent Contest
To A Memorial Quilt, Festival Promotes Dog Rescue
GULFPORT, FL (Jan. 24, 2006) -- Chihuahua Rescue & Transport is looking for the next big,
little thing. So if you think your Chihuahua can bark the blues or belt out a tune that would make even Simon cheer, we've got an event for you.
All dogs and their owners are invited to come together for the Chihuahua Rescue & Transport's
second annual Chihuahua Festival on Saturday, February 11, in Gulfport, Fla. The event includes
a silent auction, a Chi-Idol Contest, Paws On My Heart Quilt Drawing, a Valentine's photo-op
with their furkid, and live entertainment. Not only a delightful way to raise money for the
rescue, but also guarantees to put a smile on your face!
The Chi-Idol Contest will allow dogs to get on stage with their owner and showcase their talent.
They can sing, do tricks or just be really, really cute. Whatever it takes to be the next Chihuahua
Idol. Local celebrities will judge the contest and each dog will win a ribbon.
The Paws On My Heart Quilt is another significant part of the Festival. Twenty-two Chihuahua Rescue volunteers from 13 states have spent a year individually making a quilt block that is Chi related. The quilt features beautiful and inspirational messages from the quilters. More than $3,500 has already been raised with bids coming from throughout the United States and Canada.
The event will take place in the Art Village Courtyard, 2900-2914 Beach Blvd. So., in downtown Gulfport, Fla. Reef Dog Gifts & Grooming, Art Village Courtyard and Culby Properties-South is sponsoring the event again this year. The "Cornerstore Band" will provide the music in the evening. The fun starts at 3:00 PM, silent auction closes 7:00 PM with music until 10:00 PM.
Chihuahua Rescue is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, public charity with no paid employees. 100% of all proceeds of the fundraiser will go directly to the Chihuahua Rescue & Transport, Inc., with 93% of those funds paying for the medical/health care of the dogs rescued.
