TRIPPING THE LIGHT FANTASIC IN ST. PETERSBURG

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (June 16, 2006) –Not since Fred and Ginger have so many couples hit the
dance floor. Television shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” have made ballroom dancing the
hip, hot thing to do and St. Petersburg is putting its dancing shoes. The Millennium Ballroom
Dancesport Competition will be held June 22-24 at the elegant Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Spa in St. Petersburg. Featuring “Dancing With The Stars” professional couple Jonathan Roberts (who danced with Rachel Hunter) and Anna Trebunskaya (who danced with Jerry Rice).
Reigning Wheelchair Latin Champions Piotr Iwanicki & Dorota Janowska of Poland will be
performing at the event, their first performance ever in the United States. Piotr and Dorota are five time Polish champions, four time World Cup Dance champions, two-time world champions and have won the European Championships. They have 20 years of dancing experience and have danced together for four years. Since they have started dancing together they have never lost a competition. Piotr has been in a wheelchair since birth.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to have the Ninth Annual Millennium Ballroom Dancesport
Competition in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. Since its inception, the event has grown into the one of the top five ballroom dance competitions in the nation,” remarked Cynthia Gamrot Special Events Sales Manager for the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area CVB. “This event has an estimated economic impact of $500,000-800,000 in to the area economy in just a three day period.”
