Fastest Grand Prix Ever Races Into St. Pete This Weekend

Friday, March 27, 2015 - 9:07am

St. Pete/Clearwater (March 26, 2015) - Featuring new-look cars and likely the fastest times ever in St. Pete, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg tears into town this weekend.

Huge crowds are expected to flock to what's going to live up to its nickname of the "World's Fastest Spring Break Party," along St. Pete's palm-dappled bayfront. World-class museums, sidewalk cafes and luxury yachts moored just feet from the action provide a Monaco-like setting for one of the racing world's most exciting contests.

New to this year's Verizon IndyCar series and debuting in St. Pete are never-before-seen "aero kits," which are the most radical visual difference on an IndyCar in years. And in testing drivers have seen increased speeds, which means records are likely to fall along the streets of St. Pete.

The celebration kicked off this afternoon with the Green Flag VIP Luncheon and continues through the main event at 3:30 p.m. Sunday live on ABC.

Of course, throughout the weekend, speed enthusiasts can witness a variety of racing circuits qualifying and competing, including the Indy Cars and the crowd-pleasing Stadium Super Trucks. St. Pete's 14-turn track starts on runway 7/25 at the Albert Whitted Airport, twists and turns through downtown, then hugs the waterfront on Bayshore Drive.
