Firestone Grand Prix Speeds Into St. Pete March 28-30

Tuesday, March 4, 2014 - 3:31pm

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (March 4, 2014) - Featuring unique first-time racing events and Sunday’s IndyCar Series season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (March 28-30) tears into town with sizzling action on and off the track.

Huge crowds are expected to flock to what's been known as the 'World's Fastest Spring Break Party,' along St. Pete's palm-dappled bayfront. World-class museums, sidewalk cafes and luxury yachts moored just feet from the action provide a Monaco-like setting for one of the racing world's most exciting contests.

The celebration will kick off on Thursday with the Green Flag VIP Luncheon at The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club and continue in the afternoon with the official Welcome Party at The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club, followed by the Grand Prix Illuminated Night Parade.

Throughout the event weekend, speed enthusiasts can witness a variety of racing events, including qualifying sessions and exciting competition on St. Pete’s 1.8-mile, 14-turn street course, which starts on the runway at Albert Whitted Airport, twisting and turning through downtown, hugging the waterfront on Bayshore Drive.

World-class racing isn't the only attraction fans will find at the Firestone Grand Prix. The event will also include Driver Autograph Sessions, Beer Gardens, the Wish for Our Heroes 5K Presented by Modern Business Associates and a variety of interactive games and exhibits.

The IndyCar Series will broadcast LIVE on ABC at 3:30 p.m. on March 30. Viewers will get a chance to see who wins the coveted surf board trophy. Will it be returning champion, Canada’s James “Hinchtown” Hinchliffe, Brazil’s Helio Castroneves, three time winner and crowd favorite, or New Zealand’s Scott Dixon, the 2013 IndyCar Series champion?
