St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (December 6, 2013) - Today's edition of USA Today crowned two more St. Pete/Clearwater beaches with reader awards. Fort De Soto Park took home "Best Family Beach" and Anclote Key Preserve State Park notched "Best Hidden-Gem Beach."
The competition pitted some of Florida's most popular beach destinations against each other in a head-to-head comparative poll that the publication labled a "Florida beach smackdown."
"We use the phrase 'America's Best Beaches' in promoting the area for a reason," said David Dowing, Deputy Director for Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. "And to have the readers of the most popular newspaper in America honor us in this way really drives the point home beautifully."
These accolades join a quality list from 2013:
Clearwater being named "Best Florida Beach Town" by USA Today in January.
Fort De Soto Park, Caladesi Island State Park, Pass-A-Grille and Clearwater Beach named four of the Top 25 U.S. Beaches by TripAdvisor.
St. Pete Beach named one of America's Top 10 Beach Towns by Parents magazine.
Clearwater Beach chosen as one of Peter Greenberg's "Best Beaches in the U.S."
Clearwater Beach was also honored in the poll with a runner-up to Hollywood Beach Boardwalk in the "Best Boardwalk" category.
