St.Pete/Clearwater (Nov. 13, 2014) - In a joint press conference this morning, officials from Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, Tampa International Airport and Visit Tampa Bay joined Lufthansa executives to announce the Frankfurt-based airline's new five-day-a-week nonstop service from the Frankfurt Airport beginning Sept. 25, 2015.
Frankfurt is the largest of Lufthansa's five hubs, offering connections to more than 145 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Frankfurt Airport, the third busiest in Europe, moves 58 million passengers annually with its 108 airlines flying to 295 cities in 105 countries.
"Germany has been one of the main focal points for development of international tourism in the St. Pete/Clearwater area," said David Downing, Interim Director of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. "We've been heavily investing for decades in that part of the world and this signals a giant leap forward for development of the German and Central European travel market."
The sample ad pictured is a mock-up of creative marketing the new flight, which reads "From the Black Forest to the ocean so blue, LH (Lufthansa) makes it possible."
This is the fourth major air service development partnership Visit St. Pete/Clearwater has been a part of in the past several years as the area has added Edelweiss Air, Copa Airlines and Alaska Airlines. This is in addition to Allegiant Air adding five more direct flights earlier this week to its list of 40 destinations served out of St. Pete/Clearwater International Airport.
The Lufthansa flight offers 298 seats in its latest cabin layout, which features new business class seats that transform into comfortable beds. The flight will depart Frankfurt at 11 a.m. and arrive in Tampa at 3:50 p.m. after an 11-hour flight. The return flight will leave Tampa at 5:20 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 8:45 a.m. the following day.
