"Dolphin Tale" Blitz Includes Burger King Promo, NYC/London Events, Sweepstakes

Visit St. Pete/Clearwater has planned a wide variety of advertising and promotional activities on the local, national and international levels in support of Warner Bros. 3-D movie Dolphin Tale, which opens on September 23. Local outreaches include banners that will line Clearwater causeway and roundabout, signage inside the trams at Tampa airport, and promotional hangtags inside all Hertz cars rented at Tampa International (TPA), Orlando International (MCO), and St. Pete/Clearwater international (PIE) airports. National marketing outreaches include cooperative promotions with Tropical Smoothie Cafe, fandango.com, and Swiss Army, while international efforts include first-ever marketing partnerships with Burger King and McDonald's in Central Europe. And starting next week, a Dolphin Tale themed sweepstakes will take place on both VisitStPeteClearwater.c om and our Facebook page, supported by a full page advertisement in USA Today next Friday - the day the movie opens nationwide. In addition to these marketing and advertising efforts, VSPC's public relations department will be hosting simultaneous media events in New York and London on Tuesday, September 27 to hardwire destination coverage to the massive media interest the movie will be generating worldwide.

International Offices Present 2012 Sales and Marketing Plans

Marion Wolfe and Venessa Alexander, Visit St. Pete Clearwater's international sales representatives, unveiled their respective German and UK market sales and marketing plans for 2012. Wolfe, who is the director of the VSPC's Central European office, plans cooperative marketing outreaches with major tour operators, including a Highlight of the Year campaign with FTI and a Dolphin Tale promotion with Dertour (see complete plan here). Alexander, who heads VSPC's UK operations, plans various promotions with operators including Virgin Holidays, BA Holidays, and Tour America among others (see complete plan he re). Both representatives have been in the area this week conducting site visits, catching up on the latest area developments and making presentations to the local tourism industry.

St. Pete/Clearwater Area Tourism Continues Record- Setting Summer

The St. Pete/Clearwater area continued its upward trend in July with yet another record, this time setting an all time record for single month growth in TDT collections. The Pinellas County Tax Collector's office reported that bed tax collections for the month of July were up 23.8 % over the same month last year, which means that TDT collections are up by 8.86% so far this fiscal year. Walter Klages of Research Data Services expects strong August results as well, based on preliminary data collection for that month. This good news comes on the heels of an incredibly robust March, which saw the second highest single month TDT collection in Pinellas County's history.

Again, these are just a few highlights of the meeting. Also, as a reminder, in addition to the individual reports and online agenda, you can watch streaming video of the entire meeting available online from Pinellas County Communications.

David
