Second annual matchup to be broadcast live on ESPN Saturday

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (December 17, 2009) – It will be a battle of the Knights in the Sunshine City this weekend.
Presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, the 2nd annual St. Petersburg Bowlreturns to Tropicana Field Saturday, Dec. 19, as the University of Central Florida Knights take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 8 p.m.
The Conference USA (UCF) and BIG EAST Conference (RU) matchup is one of 34 bowl games this year and will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Bowl week officially starts today at 3 p.m. for fans of the two teams with a Beach Bash at the event’s official beach resort, the Tradewinds Island Grand on St. Pete Beach.
The public is welcome to watch players and coaches from both teams square off in a variety of challenges off the gridiron, including belly flop, hula hoop and karaoke contests, followed by a team talent show.
On Friday, get pumped up with each school’s band as they compete in a Battle of the Bands at 3 p.m. behind the Tradewinds. A tailgate cookout on the beach, cheerleader tug o’ war, flag football game and the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s eating contest will also take place tomorrow afternoon.
Head downtown Friday evening for the Bowl Block Party at Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill. The St. Pete landmark is adjacent to the Trop and will be rockin’ with team cheerleaders, bands and football fanatics, beginning at 5 p.m.
There are a number of ways for fans to get to the game on Saturday. Guests of the Tradewinds can pay $15 per person, round trip, for transportation.
There will also be free shuttle service between downtown St. Pete and Tropicana Field, beginning at 6 p.m. and running until one hour after the game concludes.
Parking lots open at 2 p.m. and tailgaters will want to make their way to Lot 7 for the Fan Tailgate Extravaganza, complete with DJ and sound stage, bands, interactive games, food vendors, official bowl merchandise and more.
Following the game and trophy presentation, stick around for an explosive fireworks celebration inside the stadium.
A limited number of tickets are still available for $10 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or at the Tropicana Field Box Office.
In the inaugural St. Petersburg Bowl last year, the University of South Florida Bulls beat the Memphis Tigers, 41-14.
