Thursday, July 9, 2009
St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (July 9, 2009) – At the ripe old age of 74, the Miss Florida pageant has never looked better.
The annual contest returned to St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater this week with titleholders from across the state vying for the chance to represent Florida in the Miss America pageant.
Preliminary competitions during the week lead up to this weekend’s final rounds, in which two lucky winners will be crowed among the 46 Miss Florida contestants and the 30 challengers gunning for Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen.
Finals for both divisions will take place Saturday as Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen kicks off the evening with the Miss Florida final immediately following. The local CBS affiliate, WTSP-Channel 10, will broadcast live beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $35 for preliminary competitions and $55 for Saturday’s pageant finals. Tickets may be purchased at the Mahaffey Theater Box Office, 400 First St. S. or through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or 727-892-5767.
This year's pageants will generate more than $60,000 in scholarships for the participants.
