TDC's "Elite Event" Info Session Set for April 2

Questions Answered for FY 2014 Event-Funding Process; Applications To Be Distributed

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (March 27, 2013) - Visit St. Pete/Clearwaterwill hold a public information session from 3-5 p.m. next Tuesday, April 2, at the St. Pete College EpiCenter to review eligibility guidelines for the funding of Elite Events, distribute applications and answer any questions regarding the process.

The Elite Event funding sets a two-tier eligibility field based on a given event's number of projected room nights and/or attendance, as well as the collective marketing reach of the event on a regional, national and international scale. Qualified applicants will be eligible for either reimbursable marketing dollars or direct sponsorship funding from VSPC, depending on the nature of the organization. 

The Elite Event funding program is designed to maximize the economic benefits of Pinellas County's tourism marketing while providing equitable funding opportunities for all qualified applicants. Elite Events conducted by either for-profit or not-for-profit entities (including municipalities) are eligible for funding. 

Qualified Category 1 Elite Events project or have a history of at least 25,000 attendees and/or 10,000 room nights, and are nationally televised. Qualified Category 2 Elite Events project or have a history of at least 15,000 attendees and/or 5,000 room nights. 

Examples of events that have received Elite Event funding in the past include the Honda Grand Prix (pictured) and the Outback Bowl. A subcommittee of the Tourist Development Council (TDC) reviews all applications and makes recommendations for funding. Final funding decisions are determined by a vote of the full TDC, with subsequent approval by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners. 

Tuesday's meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at the St. Pete College EpiCenter in room 2-304, from 3-5 p.m. No RSVP is necessary.
