Nod from international organization places area tourism bureau among country's elite

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (April 1, 2011) - After becoming one of the first tourism organizations in the U.S. to be accredited by the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) in 2005, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater (VSPC) today announced the successful completion of its second accreditation review, placing it among an elite group of tourism marketers worldwide.
The program, which was developed by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), honors destination marketing organizations (DMOs) that satisfy a stringent series of requirements, including best practices in travel and tourism industry procedures, partner engagement, and marketing excellence.
"This underscores our commitment to provide our partners and clients with superior service," said Visit St. Pete/Clearwater executive director DT Minich. "The accreditation process is an extremely thorough review of our entire operation, and we're pleased that our organization meets the stringent standards set by DMAI."
VSPC is charged with enhancing Pinellas County's economy by increasing direct visitor expenditures and promoting local tourism-related job development. The bureau works domestically and internationally to promote the St. Pete/Clearwater area to the travel media and the travel industry, including meeting and conference planners, sports promoters and film producers.
Visit St. Pete/Clearwater is the destination marketing organization for Pinellas County, Florida.
