Hourly vacation giveaways set St. Pete/Clearwater apart at largest show in U.S.

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (February 24, 2009) – In preparation for next month’s guerilla marketing assault on the Big Apple, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater (VSPC) will make a pre-emptive splash at this weekend’s New York Times Travel Show by doing something none of the other 500 presenters from around the world will be doing: giving away a hotel stay every hour, on the hour, for the duration of the three-day event.
The nation’s largest consumer show, which draws more than 25,000 travel enthusiasts to Manhattan’s massive Javits Center, offers attendees the latest information on destinations in more than 100 countries, as well as Q&A sessions with top travel journalists, live theatrical performances and culinary demonstrations.
VSPC Senior Leisure Sales Manager Rob Price will join partners from five local hotel properties---Postcard Inn on the Beach, Renaissance Vinoy, Loews Don CeSar, TradeWinds Island Resort and Plaza Beach Resorts---on the floor of the show to greet inquisitive pros and shoppers alike, extending sunny salutations to a market that has been buried by near-record snowfall this winter.
And once an hour for the duration of the show, VSPC booth visitors will receive a chance to win a stay at one of 14 local hotels who donated room vouchers for the promotion.
This giveaway dovetails with VSPC’s NYC-area marketing initiative announced earlier this month, which places ‘Ambassador’ ads on video screens in 4,500 NYC taxi cabs, on sandwich board-clad street teams and in Manhattan’s heavily-trafficked Union Square subway station for the month of March.
The sweepstakes also continues throughout March, with VSPC partnering with JetBlue to award one lucky winner per week a complete vacation package to the St. Pete/Clearwater area.
Visit St. Pete/Clearwater is the destination marketing organization for Pinellas County, Florida.
