Taxi cabs, subways, delivery trucks, elevators carry message to key markets

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (February 11, 2009) - The St. Pete/Clearwater area has good news for all the winter-weary souls digging themselves out from this winter’s so-called —snowpocalypse,” the epic snowstorms that have blanketed much of the U.S. eastern seaboard: sun is on the way, courtesy of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater.
That’s because starting this month and running through the end of winter, key domestic markets will be bombarded with sunny advertisements for the St. Pete/Clearwater area--- some in places they’ve never seen before.
An extension of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater’s (VSPC) ongoing —Where the Beach Takes You” brand campaign, these sunny salutations will be delivered to the Chicago and New York City markets by a variety of guerilla vehicles and take many shapes and forms.
Blowing into the Windy City earlier this month, VSPC’s ‘Ambassador’ advertising campaign will be displayed in 1,300 elevator video screens in office buildings throughout the metro area through the end of March. Characters from the popular sun-splashed ads---including Salvador Dali, a Tarpon Springs sponge diver and others---will also adorn the sides of a dozen Chicago delivery trucks.
Meanwhile, Dali and crew will be hitting the streets---and what’s beneath them---in the Big Apple. The Ambassador ads will be displayed on in-car screens found in 4,500 NYC taxi cabs and on sandwich board-clad street teams in the subways of Manhattan.
VSPC will commandeer Manhattan’s Union Square subway station (pictured above, right) in March, completely re-branding it with St. Petersburg/Clearwater advertising collateral. Emphasizing the area’s proximity to the Big Apple with a simple, yet catchy tagline---—Two-and-a-half hours in the air can change everything”---the ads will compare our Ambassadors to a cast of colorful New York characters. Also in New York, VSPC will partner with JetBlue next month to send one lucky winner per week on an all-expenses paid trip to the St. Pete/Clearwater area.
Representing surprising things to see and do in St. Petersburg/Clearwater in addition to the beach, all of the Ambassadors are shown standing in the surf on Fort De Soto’s pristine white-sand shore.
