St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (September 26, 2013) - The nation's premier offshore power boat racing series returns to Clearwater this weekend for three days of family-friendly, full-throttle entertainment.
Hailed as "NASCAR on water," the Bright House 2013 Clearwater Super Boat National Championship will take place off the coast of Clearwater Beach this Sunday.
With competing boats capable of reaching speeds up to 200 mph, races are scheduled at noon and 2 p.m. on a 4.4 mile rectangular course that offers speed enthusiasts the best viewing for offshore races.
Wrapping up this season, Sunday's contest will crown a National Champion for the Super Boat Series, the longest running offshore power boat racing series in the United States.
The festivities begin Friday in downtown Clearwater at the Baystar Race Village. Super Boats and team drivers will be on display in Coachman Park from noon to 10 p.m. and a block party will take place nearby at "Blast Friday," beginning at 5:30 pm, with a live performance by John Cafferty of "Beaver Brown Band" with Stormbringer.
Entertainment continues at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a seafood festival at the Baystar Race Village with the Bright House Star Spectacular kicking off at 7 p.m. with "Alter Eagles" the Definitive Eagles Tribute Band at Coachman Park.
That same day, spectators will get their first glimpse of the action on the water with drivers holding practice runs until 5 p.m., before an explosive fireworks show at dusk.
Events throughout the weekend are free, including Sunday's competition. A VIP race experience---complete with preferred viewing, admission to exclusive events and more---is available for $100 for adults and $25 for children 16 and under. Tickets to watch the event from Pier 60 cost $5 or $20.
With limited parking available on Clearwater Beach, fans are encouraged to hop aboard one of the two trolleys servicing downtown Clearwater. Either park at one of several "off beach" locations and ride the Jolley Trolley or park for free at the Clearwater Municipal Services Garage and take the PSTA Suncoast Beach Trolley ($2) to Clearwater Beach. Ambassador Limousine will also provide transportation on a 47-passenger bus along the same route.
