Area Hosts Record Four Season Openers This Week

Rays, Rowdies, Blue Jays & Threshers All Kick Off 2013 In St. Pete/Clearwater

St. Pete/Clearwater, FL (April 2, 2013) - In the span of four days this week, St. Pete/Clearwater will celebrate a record four home openers for professional sports teams---Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Rowdies in St. Pete, the Clearwater Threshers and the Dunedin Blue Jays---making it the only Florida destination able to boast such a superlative.

The excitement begins today at 3:10 p.m. with theTampa Bay Rays launching the 2013 Major League Baseball season against AL East rival Baltimore at a sold-out Tropicana Field. The hours leading up to the first pitch---thrown by 2012 Cy Young winner David Price---features an official block party at Ferg's Sports Bar on Central Ave. across from the stadium. 

More baseball follows on Thursday as the Dunedin Blue Jays and Clearwater Threshers kick off the 2013 Florida State League at 6:30 p.m. at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. Twenty-four hours later the teams meet again as the Threshers host the Blue Jays for their home opener at Bright House Field.

Capping the week of competition are the defending NASL Champion Tampa Bay Rowdies (pictured), who begin their title defense at 6 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium against the Carolina Railhawks.

Tickets are available for the Rays' five other games this week (two more against Baltimore and three against Cleveland), as well as for the Threshers, Blue Jays and Rowdies.
